Golden Days Commentary – Volume 3

I hadn’t intended to stop doing these… but now that I check the last time I did a Golden Days commentary was in September. Haha, well, I will do another one now. This time, it is Volume 3.

This volume brings Kei back into the story, and things began to become more intense and even a little dark.

Golden Days Commentary – Volume 2

The second volume of Golden Days is probably the most typical volume, yet it’s a bit unique as it’s also the volume that is the most episodic and slice-of-life. If I had to cut down this manga for something like an anime adaptation, this is probably the first place I would start cutting material. Yet it’s still a great volume, filled with tons of character development and backstory. So, let’s take a look at it, shall we?

Golden Days Commentary – Volume 1

I’m not sure what you might call this: a commentary, analysis, a reader’s guide, or some kind of super-long review, perhaps? Even after finishing up the scanlation, I just can’t seem to stop wanting to write more about Golden Days. So I’ll be going through each volume and writing about the characters, plot and symbolism within this manga. Kind of like literary criticism, but without the college professors and pretentiousness. It’s going to float around a bit more, as my thoughts can be a bit muddled at times. If you’re interested, please read along. This post contains my thoughts about the first volume.

I guess my English minor has come to some use after all…

I should mention that this commentary will assume that you have already read Golden Days by Takao Shigeru. So unless you want to be spoiled, you might want to finish it first.

Golden Days – Chapter 42

Chapter 42

Is that the truth?

Weren’t Jin and Yoshimitsu just the cutest little kids? In this chapter Jin and Mitsuya’s investigation reaches its culmination as the culprit is revealed.

With this chapter, we begin the eighth and final volume. This translation is intended to be read along with the ebook or paper volumes, so it isn’t a scanlation, just a translation.

Golden Days – Chapter 40

Chapter 40

Beginning to snowball

Jin and Mitsuya travel to the town where Yoshimitsu’s parents died. There, they uncover evidence that someone was investigating here before…

This is one of my favorite chapters in the manga for its beautiful snow-covered scenery. This translation is intended to be read along with the ebook or paper volumes, so it isn’t a scanlation, just a translation.

Golden Days – Chapter 39

Chapter 39

Mystery Solving Teens

Not like those mystery solving teens, since they’re actually trying to solve the mystery.

In this chapter, Jin explains what he and Kunimi have discovered, and Kei reveals his past to Setsu. This translation is intended to be read along with the ebook or paper volumes, so it isn’t a scanlation, just a translation.
